Red Hot Penny Shares made a 1% gain…
VATUKOULA GOLD (VGM): Gold production in the latest quarter was a disappointing 11,405 ounces, and Vatukoula now expects to produce only 75,000oz of gold in the year to August, although it is sticking to its 100,000oz target for the following year. The corollary of the low rate of production is a high cost per ounce of $1480/oz, so the mine made a loss for the quarter.
As I have said before gold production from the mine is unpredictable from one quarter to the next and the story is increasingly becoming about exploration of the surrounding area. Furthermore, new management at the Fiji Sugar Corporation has indicated that it is interested in pursuing a biomass power project that could see Vatukoula’s important power costs reduced by over 50%. Nonetheless, the shares have been losing ground as production slows. So it’s time to SELL.
