I want you to sell out of ZINCOX (ZOX). In my view the last fortnight has seen a decisive turn in the consensus economic view. It is not impossible that European leaders could restore confidence in the Euro. It is not impossible that the Republicans and Democrats could provide some proper leadership in the USA. But the betting is now against these outcomes. Whether or not the key Chinese economy can maintain its pace of growth is a matter of conjecture, but investors are now more wary.
These problems are now feeding through to the metals market. The price of most leading metals has been falling and this has important implications for Zincox.
The company, which is building a plant in Korea to extract zinc and iron-rich briquettes from the waste dust of electric arc furnaces, has reported that its project is on schedule and on budget and that first production is expected in early 2012. This is a revolutionary new process and if it works in Korea it could be applicable anywhere in the world.
The problem, though, is that the price of zinc has been falling. In the last month it has come down from $2,200/tonne to under $2,000/tonne. Broker Ambrian values the shares at 134p – but this is based on a zinc price in the $2,183 - $2,725 range over the next three years.
This dip in the zinc price may prove temporary but we are where we are and at this level the business of recovering zinc from waste material is clearly less profitable. SELL.
